I greatly enjoyed this post. I have recently retrieved my old fountain pens, bought some ink, and written letters! There is pleasure in committing one’s thinking to the materiality of paper and lines of ink. My son used to write me letters that I considered works of art. I am hoping to encourage him to take up the practice again.

Like John, I also bought a couple fountain pens and ink cartridges some years ago. I’ve hardly used them and I think the ink cartridges have dried out. My hands don’t know how to write half the time, even my signature I mess up. Yes, I do blame it on computer use. And my brain seems to prefer composing at the computer keyboard. I lament the loss of writing. I appreciate the depth of what Beth has written here.
