I am grateful that your trip was placid and you were treated with respect. re your "sense of betrayal and lack of trust", there have been periods when the US government has betrayed its citizens (e.g. The Pentagon Papers' revelations about the Vietnam Era), but those dark periods have also evoked citizens and elected representatives' commitment to work, as Dr. King put it, so that the "moral arc of the universe...bends toward justice". This is happing now, with the determination of ordinary people, the courts and the politicians who are dismayed and disgusted.

Many of us who remain in NY are fighting the good fight. Dispite the short term handicap of a broken leg, I am excited to stand up on May Day with others in my community and say "No More." I wish you the best summer Montreal can provide.

Good to hear from you, Michael -- and I'm sorry about your leg! Bike accident? I hope it heals fast. I'm not surprised to know you and others are fighting and resisting. Eventually, resistance will prevail.

What a nightmare this country has become. Never in a million years did I think we would be dealing with this state of affairs. My husband passed away recently and I was pretty frantic trying to make sure my social security and health insurance were intact. I really worry about my son and his family. Praying that the resistance continues and begins to swell.

Thanks, Kathy. What's really sad is that it's not the whole country, but the whole country has to bear the weight. I know it will turn around eventually, but the damage will last a long time and people will really suffer. Still, we have to be optimistic and fight for the little ones!
