Wishing you a continuing swift recovery, Beth. I had dental issues - far more minor than yours - and orthodontic work as a young adult and have always been self-conscious about my still slightly crooked front teeth and bridges. So I can relate very much to your experience with the shocked maid. You are admirably stoic indeed, to have coped with such grace with the ongoing challenges.

Ugh, I’m very sorry. I didn’t have most of your problems, but I’ve smiled with my mouth shut most of my life. I was especially self-conscious in India, where almost everyone has shining white teeth. I went to the periodontist for the first time last month, and next week I will find out whether or not I will need gum surgery. I have trouble breathing when there is a long procedure — I’ll try to remember meditative breathing, and playing music in my head. I hope your current troubles are your last.
